When most people think of patio furniture umbrellas, they think of the standard round umbrellas on a pole that goes through the center of the patio table. That is just one type that is available, though. There are many types to suit the patio furniture and the size of the patio itself. There are even umbrellas for use on small balcony patios. Whatever size and type of patio and furniture you have, you can find a patio furniture umbrella just right for it.
Most types of these umbrellas also come in wind resistant designs. These are vented to allow the wind to pass through the vents without catching the umbrella and carrying it off. This type is especially appreciated in areas that frequently have a lot of wind.
The different designs of umbrellas are also available in a variety of materials. The frames and poles can be of metal, plastic or wood. Most umbrellas have canvas canopies but some are made of natural fibers to resemble the thatched roofs of tiki huts.
Of course, most of us are familiar with the patio furniture umbrellas that are on a straight pole that goes through the center of a patio table and is anchored underneath the table. The next most familiar is one that is basically the same but is free standing and is anchored in a large, weighted base.

These sit next to the patio table and the frame is design to hang over the table and not right above the pole. These are great for patio tables that are not designed to have the umbrella pole run through the center of them. This will leave the entire table top unobstructed.
If your patio set is always fairly close to a wall, you might be interested in a wall-mounted umbrella. This is especially good for small patios because you don't want what little space there is on it taken up with an umbrella stand. For small balcony patios, a wall-mounted half umbrella is ideal.
Umbrellas come in quite a variety of sizes and shapes. They can be round, oval, square, or rectangular and range in size from six to eleven feet.
